Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know I need physiotherapy?

If you are suffering a pain or musculoskeletal dysfunction, it is likely that you will require an intervention of some type. Without an assessment from a suitably qualified medical practitioner it is difficult to know the extent of any such injury or dysfunction. The Chartered Physiotherapists at PhysioCare treat injuries such as back pain, neck pain, whiplash, sports injuries, foot pain, frozen shoulder to name but a few. Please see our list of conditions treated for more information

Do I need to be referred by my GP / Consultant?

No referral is necessary to see a Chartered Physiotherapist. However, when required we will contact your GP and or Consultant to update them with your condition and progress. Your options will be discussed with you during your treatment session.

When can I get an appointment?

Our opening hours in Blanchardstown and Butterfield are from 8am – 8pm. We are also open on Saturdays from 10:00 until 3:00. We will endeavour to get you an appointment that is most convenient to you. The soonest available appointment will be offered to you. If you are flexible with your time we can usually accommodate you within 24 hours.

How long does a standard appointment last?

Most appointments last approximately 30 minutes. This can vary depending on the extent of your problem.

What do I need to bring to my appointments?

On initial examination, it is helpful to bring any scans related to your problem, a list of your current medications, and if you have been referred from your GP / Consultant, your referral letter. Comfortable clothing is also advised as you may be asked to remove items of clothing to fully assess your problem. If you are coming in for an assessment for orthotics, it is very worthwhile to bring several pairs of your footwear with you.

Will I have to do anything in between physiotherapy sessions?

In the majority of cases, yes. Most conditions will require you to do certain exercises or you may require a short rest period. You will be given exercises on your first appointment. These will be progressed as is required. Remember, the more diligent you are with the advice given by your physiotherapist the more likely it is that you will make a speedy recovery!

How many sessions will I require?

On initial assessment, your physiotherapist will give you a rough guide as to how long your treatment is likely to take. In some cases it can be difficult to determine how long certain conditions can take to get better. Progress would be expected after 2 to 3 sessions. Don’t be afraid to ask your physiotherapist at any stage if you are uncertain of anything. You will be reassessed at the beginning of each session which will give you and your physiotherapist a good indication of your progress.

How do I pay?

We accept payment by cash, laser or by cheque. You will be required to pay at the end of each session. We run accounts for certain companies and clubs, however this needs to be set up in advance and can be arranged by contacting tdalton@physio.ie.

Do you offer home visits?

Home visits are available when necessary. We currently run a service that facilitates this. Please contact your local PhysioCare clinic to arrange an appointment.

Can I claim back from my Health Insurer / Tax?

In most cases you can claim back from your health insurer. We strongly advise that you consult with your health insurer to clarify your exact level of cover.

Remember you can also claim back through your tax. There is no excess due for this and you can claim back 20% of your costs after you have claimed through your health provider. This can be done through the MED1 form, in the written form as well as online (www.ROS.ie)
